Athens County Foundation Inducts New Board Members

At the FY 2016 Annual Meeting held on January 25, 2017, the members of the Athens County Foundation elected three new members to the Board of Directors.

Otis Crockron, Jr. relocated to Athens, Ohio in 1986 for the purpose of attending Ohio University; however, he fell in love with the area and decided to make Athens his permanent home. Otis graduated from Ohio University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Business and a Master of Business Administration Degree. Otis has worked at Don Wood Inc. as a Finance and Insurance Manager, Century National Bank as an Installment/Commercial Loan Banker, and currently, is the Deputy Director of Finance and Operations for Athens County Children Services. Otis has served the Athens community as an ordained minister, board member for the Salvation Army, and a night supervisor at Good Works Inc. Otis has been blessed to live with his wife of twenty-five years, Ivy, and their son, Seth, and daughter, Jadyn.

Mark Seckinger is president of OhioHealth O’Bleness Hospital. As president he oversees the operations of the hospital, coordinating strategic direction, future development and community healthcare services in southeast Ohio for OhioHealth.Previously Mr. Seckinger served as president of OhioHealth Hardin Memorial Hospital. He has held various leadership positions at OhioHealth Doctors Hospital in Dublin, including Senior Operational Officer. In 1983 he was named President of Doctors Hospital-Nelsonville. Seckinger began his career in Healthcare at Mercy Hospital in Portsmouth, Ohio. Mr. Seckinger holds a bachelor’s degree in Industrial Technology from the College of Engineering at Ohio University. In addition, he serves on the Osteopathic Heritage Foundation Board. Mr. Seckinger is an Athens County native, having grown up in Nelsonville. He currently lives in Logan with his wife Kathy.

Born and raised in the Youngstown area, Cheryl Sylvester came to Ohio University in 1980. She received a Bachelor’s degree from Scripps and a Master’s degree in Telecommunications Management. After owning Just Desserts on Court Street and several jobs in Athens, Cheryl settled into a sales career in employee benefits at Southeastern Agency. She was a founding member of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Athens County and a part of The Children’s Conservation League, The O’Bleness Golf Tournament Committee, Stuart’s Opera House, and most recently chaired four years of Bounty on the Bricks. Cheryl is married to Tony Sylvester and has one son, Anthony.
