MISSION

The Racial Equity Coalition of Athens County is a collaborative space to advance racial equity and racial justice within the Athens community. We do this through anti-racist social, economic, educational, and cultural initiatives.

  • Commitment to personal, interpersonal, and intercultural growth and reflection on issues of racism, bias, and prejudice through continued education and dialogues
  • Commitment to continuing cross-sector partnerships and collaborations within Athens County to address systemic racism, inequities, and disparities.
  • Commitment and willingness to engage in difficult conversations and racial healing through active listening, understanding, cultural humility, compassion, and empathy
  • Commitment to racial justice by addressing the local challenges of communities of color and make the necessary changes to create equity within education, the workforce, healthcare, local policies, and the community that eradicates barriers for racial/ethnic minorities
  • Commitment to creating Inclusive Communities through developing authentic relationships with all community members in which we live and work
